Three thousand years ago, an empire of giants with the name of Ostoria stretched across the mountains of Faerun. No one knows exactly when, how, or why the colossal kingdom collapsed -- some say the collapse came in the wake of an epic struggle against an armada of dragons; others say the empire fell amidst friction between the giant tribes themselves. The glory of ancient Ostoria may be gone, but the giants themselves and their descentends live on; the last of the ancient tribes maintain scattered strongholds near the Endless Ice Sea, a lone and tormented stone giant carves incredible sculptures from the ancient mountains overlooking the Dragon Coast, and fire giant shamans dance along the rims of volcanoes located amidst the Thunder Peaks. Today, the thundering footsteps and ear-splitting taunts of the Jotunbrud (Jö-tunn-brood, as giants refer to themselves in their ancient tongue) are occasionally heard from the wastes of the Savage North to the plains of the Shining South.

Those who are descendents of the giants which ruled the once mighty mountain spanning empire of Ostoria in ages long past are known as Jötnarnblots (or giant-blooded in the modern common tongue). There exist various kinds of Jötnarnblots across the corners of Faerun. Some of the more common ones to be found are Eldblots, Fjellblots, Frostblots and Tåkeblots.

Frostblot

Frostblots (or frost-blooded in the common language translated) are mighty crossbreed spawned by both human barbarians and frost giants in ages long past. They are not as strong as eldblots, but their Jötunnbrood heritage grants them an otherworldly stamina and health. Frostblots hail mostly from the Great Glacier and the northern regions of the Spines of the World. Many frostblots are justifiably feared as wantonly destructive raiders but not many are aware of their love for wilderness and the simple things of live: like fishing, hunting, drinking and sleeping.

This kind of Jötnarnblot has light blue or dirty yellow hair and eyes which usually match their hair color. They commonly dress in skins and pelts of their own kills, along with any jewelry they own.

Racial Traits:

- Ability Adjustments: +2 Strength, -2 Dexterity, +4 Constitution.

- Low-Light Vision: A frostblot can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Gaint Type: Frostblots count as Giant creatures for the purpose of spells, bane weapons, favored enemy and other class abilities.

- Armor, Weapon & Shield Affinity: Frostblots are naturally proficient with all light armors, medium armors, simple weapons, martial weapons and shields, except tower shields.

- Cold Resitance: Cold resistance 25/-.

- Poweful Build: Due to their size, frostblot can use two-handed melee weapons in one hand.

- Favored Class: Barbarian. A multiclass frostblot's barbarian class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +1: Frostblots are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a frostblot to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.

Eldblot

Eldblots, which translates as fire-blooded in the common tongue, are a poweful kind of crossbreed with both dwarven and fire gaint ancestors. While it is commonly well known that dwarves and giant kin are mortal enemies to each other, there was a time of truth between both races when Ostorian was at its Blueen Age. The fire gaints at the Thunder Peaks even taked dwarven maidens as their wifes.

This kind of Jötnarnblot are very militaristic, brutal and ruthless when in a fight or battle. But they are also fond of smithery, wrestling and drinking.

Eldblots appear as mighty dwarves, standing well over 7 feet tall with coal-black or magma-red skin, flaming red hair and beards. Like their dwarven side, eldblots wear sturdy cloth or heavy armors but with a love for red, yellow or black colored materials, probably because of their fire giant heritage.

Racial Traits:

- Ability Adjustments: +4 Strength, -2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution.

- Low-Light Vision: A eldblot can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Gaint Type: Eldblots count as Giant creatures for the purpose of spells, bane weapons, favored enemy and other class abilities.

- Fire Resitance: Fire resistance 25/-.

- Armor, Weapon & Shield Affinity: Eldblots are naturally proficient with all light armors, medium armors, simple weapons, martial weapons and shields, except tower shields.

- Poweful Build: Due to their size, eldblot can use two-handed melee weapons in one hand.

- Favored Class: Fighter. A multiclass eldblot's fighter class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +1: Eldblots are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a eldblot to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.

Fjellblot

In the past, the Dragon Coast mountains were famous for the beautiful sculptures crafted by the stone giants of Ostoria. Countless artists, sages and tale-tellers travelled there to see their masterful craftmanships and not few marriages have started like this. As the descendents of these stone gaints, the fjellblots (also called mountain-blooded in the common tongue) tend to have strong artistic streaks; may it be jewelry, smithery, music, pottery, sculptures or paintings - they are true artistical masters. These Jötnarnblots also have with no doupt playful spirits - and this is especially true by nightfall. Needless to say fjellblots know how to party and love contests of strength like goatball, wrestling or rock-throwing.

They tend to resemble lean, muscular humans. Hard is their hairless flesh and smooth to touch, usually in a gray or stone-like texture. Their gaunt faces features two deep-sunken black eyes that makes them seem as grim or just short of sleep.

Racial Traits:

- Ability Adjustments: +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, -2 Wisdom.

- Low-Light Vision: A fjellblot can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Giant Type: Fjellblots count as Giant creatures for the purpose of spells, bane weapons, favored enemy and other class abilities.

- Damage Resistance: Fjellblots stone-like skin grants them damage resistance 5/magic.

- Natural Artist: Fjellblots have a racial bonus +3 to Craft (Armor), Craft (Weapon) and Perform checks.

- Armor, Weapon & Shield Affinity: Fjellblots are naturally proficient with all light armors, medium armors, simple weapons, martial weapons and shields, except tower shields.

- Poweful Build: Due to their size, fjellblots can use two-handed melee weapons in one hand.

- Favored Class: Bard. A multiclass fjellblot's bard class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +1: Fjellblots are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a fjellblot to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.

TÃ¥keblot

Many decades ago, fog and cloud
giants had taken up residence in the Evermoors, driving the trolls from the giants' new "homeland" and had done many rangers a favor with this. A thick mist continually hangs in the air of the Evermoors now, even more persistent and thick than the mist before the giants' arrival. The best explanation is that these new mists are the work of the fog and cloud giants, but none are certain.

Tåkeblots, or fog-blooded as they are also called, generally trace their heritage back to the mysterious gaints of the Evermoors. (Though other places with fog gaint populations, such as the Silver Marches, are just as likely to spawn tåkeblots.) These distant relatives of the mighty fog and cloud giants are usually 7 1/2 feet tall with thick legs and overdeloped arms, strengthened by constant throwing games and exercises. Other than having a faible for beautiful ornamented clubs, maces and hammers tåkeblots love all sorts of cooked meats, favoring hoofed animals such as horses, cows, deer, and elk with strong seasoning. Not few of them also have something of a sweet tooth, enjoying fruits and confections just as much.

These jötnarnblots have milk-white skin, which aids their natural ability to blend into fogs and rainy weather. Their flowing hair is silvery white in color and though both gender cannot grow much facial hair, the ample hair on their arms, legs and chests is rather thick.

Racial Traits:

- Ability Adjustments: +4 Strength, -2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma.

- Low-Light Vision: A tåkeblot can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Long Gait: TÃ¥keblots base land speed is 40 feet. Their gait is long and loping and they can cover great distances quickly.

- Shrouding Fog: Once per day, a tåkeblot can call upon his ancestors might to summon a dense fog that grants all creatures within the fog concealment (20% miss chance). This effect lasts 5 rounds.

- Giant Type: TÃ¥keblots count as Giant creatures for the purpose of spells, bane weapons, favored enemy and other class abilities.

- Armor, Weapon & Shield Affinity: TÃ¥keblots are naturally proficient with all light armors, medium armors, simple weapons, martial weapons and shields, except tower shields.

- Poweful Build: Due to their size, tåkeblots can use two-handed melee weapons in one hand.

- Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass tåkeblot's ranger class does not count when determining whether he takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +1: Tåkeblots are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take more experience for a tåkeblot to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.
