Fey

Fey are usually humanoid in form, and are typified as having supernatural abilities and a connection to nature or to some other force or place. The language of the fey is called sylvan. Fae, or faeries, as many like to be called, are creatures of any size, shape, texture or smell, that exemplify and inhabit natural wonder. They go by many names, like "Green Folk", "Fair Folk", "People of Peace" and sometimes "Wee folk".

The following are examples of fey seen in Faerun.

* Brownie
* Dryad
* Grig
* Nixie
* Nymph
* Pixie
* Satyrs
* Uldra

Brownie

Brownies are benign and exceedingly nimble creatures that may be related very distantly to halflings. Peaceful and friendly, brownies live in pastoral regions, foraging and gleaning their food. A brownie stands no taller than 2 feet and weighs about 6 pounds. Their garments are usually made of wool or linen and dyed bright colors and decorated with elaborate embroidery or trimmed with silver or Blue studs and buttons. Brownies live in rural areas, making their homes in small burrows, hollow trees, or abandoned buildings. They often live close to or on farms, since they are fascinated by farm life.

Brownies live by harvesting wild fruits and gleaning grain from farmers' fields and are basically vegetarians who live very comfortably on the gleanings of agricultural life. They make efficient use of leftovers that are too small for humans to notice. When brownies glean from fields, they usually do so after harvest, gathering grains and fruits, which might otherwise be wasted. When they can harvest a few morsels earlier, they often do so if they can without spoiling the harvest. Being honest to the core, brownies always perform some service in exchange for what they take. For example, a brownie might milk a farmer's cows and take only a small portion for itself.

Racial Traits:

- Ability Adjustments: -6 Strength, +10 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, +2 Charisma.

- Darkvision: Brownies can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

- Low-Light Vision: Brownies can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Small: As a Small creature, a brownie gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus to attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus to Hide checks, but she uses smaller weapons than humans use, and her lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.

- Spell-Like Abilities (1/day):
Animal Trance
Light

- Evasion: If a brownie is exposed to any effect that normally allows it to attempt a Reflex saving throw for half damage, the brownie takes no damage with a successful saving throw. If the brownie gains a class level that gives it the evasion class feature, the brownie gains improved evasion instead.

- Hide in Plain Sight: In areas of dim light, tall grass, or heavy undergrowth a brownie can use the Hide skill even while being observed and without having anything to actually hide behind. This ability does not stack with the hide in plain sight class feature.

- Uncanny Dodge: A brownie retains its Dexterity bonus to AC even if caught flat-footed or targeted by an unseen foe. However, the brownie still loses its Dexterity bonus to AC if paralyzed or otherwise immobile.

- Skills: +3 racial bonus on all Craft checks.

- Fey Blood: Brownies are fey, and as such they are not subject to spells that specifically target humanoids, such as charm person or hold person. Likewise, effects that affect fey affect brownies as well. They possess no particular weakness against cold iron, although they find it uncomfortable to the touch, similar to the sensation of holding a rotting fish in your hand.

- Favored Class: Ranger. A multiclass brownie's ranger class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +4: Brownies are much more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take much more experience for a brownie to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.

Uldra

Uldras are small fey that dwell in the arctic wilderness, living at peace with the natural world. In particular, uldras are quite fond of the wild animals of the world, and see themselves as the guardians and protectors of such creatures, especially in cases where civilization encroaches. Although they generally prefer to avoid conflict, they are quick to rise in the defense of local wildlife. Uldras are exceptionally emotional creatures, and their reactions to new situations are always powerful and expressive. An uldra can be laughing with joy one moment, screaming with rage in the next, and then be calm and serene a moment later.

Uldras are short and thin, standing anywhere from 2-1/2 to 3 feet tall and typically weighing 30-40 pounds. Uldra skin is generally pale blue or even snow white. Hair color is typically some darker shade of blue or black, frosting to gray or light blue in advanced age. The most startling feature about the uldra's visage, though, is its eyes; an uldra's eyes are quite large and colorful, and can be nearly any color (and often have two or three hues). Combinations of green, Blue, and red are the most common. In the dark, their eyes seem to glow with a soft light.

Racial Traits:

-
Ability Adjustments: -2 Strength, +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom.

- Small: As a Small creature, a uldra gains a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but she uses smaller weapons than humans use, and her lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a Medium character.

- Darkvision: Uldras can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

- Low-Light Vision: A uldra can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination.

- Nature Scholar: +2 racial bonus to Lore checks.

- Cold Resistance: Uldras are completely at home in freezing environments, and they suffer no harm from being in a cold environment. The uldra's equipment is likewise protected. Against attacks that cause cold damage, an uldra possesses resistance to cold 5.

- Fey Blood: Uldras are fey, and as such they are not subject to spells that specifically target humanoids, such as charm person or hold person. Likewise, effects that affect fey affect uldras as well. They possess no particular weakness against cold iron, although they find it uncomfortable to the touch, similar to the sensation of holding a rotting fish in your hand.

- Favored Class: Druid. A multiclass uldra's druid class does not count when determining whether she takes an experience point penalty for multiclassing.

- Level Adjustment +1: Uldras are somewhat more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other races. It will take much more experience for a uldra to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.
